This course provides a systematic analysis of Eschatology, the study of "final things" as a significant theme in historical, literary, and philosophical thought. Moving beyond personal belief systems, the curriculum examines the diverse ways in which cultures and thinkers have constructed narratives regarding the conclusion of history, the resolution of the human condition, and the transition into a new state of existence.
Students will explore the internal logic of various apocalyptic frameworks, the historical contexts that birthed them, and the impact of "end-of-the-world" ideologies on social and political behavior throughout the centuries.
